Domestic Tree Surgery FAQ's

How do Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) work?

Local planning authorities can place Tree Preservation Orders on any individual tree or woodland. The TPO strictly prohibits the felling, uprooting or wilful damage of trees without consent and may even go as far as to restrict tree pruning. Unauthorised work on a TPO tree can result in a maximum £20,000 fine. There are exemptions for TPO's in the case where the tree/s are dead, dying, diseased or dangerous. A 5-day notice may still apply - it is always essential to check with you local planning department.

Can I receive an online / telephone quotation?

Genarally it is difficult to estimate tree work online or over the phone. There are several factors which effect the complexity of tree work and a site inspection by one of qualified surveyor will enable us to perform an assesment of the work / machinery required and the ease of disposal of wood and other materials. No obligation quotations are provided free of charge. Get in touch with us today to discuss your project requirements.

How do Tree Conservation Areas work?

Trees in conservation areas may be subject to a Tree Preservation Order (see above). The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 also makes special provision for trees in conservation areas which are not the subject of a TPO.

Anyone proposing to cut down or carry out work on a tree in a conservation area is required to submit a 'Section 211 Notice' giving your Local Planning Authority six weeks notice of the proposed work.

The LPA will then consider the impact of the proposed work and the potential impact on the local area which may be desirable to preserve or enhance.

Can we keep the wood chip from our trees?

Some customers choose to keep wood chippings to use as a mulch – for blocking weeds out and retaining soil moisture in. Some trees chipping cannot be used for mulch. Our experienced team can help advise you of the suitability and use of your woodchips.
